The Facilitator's Fieldbook, 2nd Ed, is an excellent practical reference book for any Facilitator. If you are a manager going into more facilitative practices, this has specific pointers; as a facilitator gaining experience, this offers a wide variety of processes with pros and cons; as an experienced facilitator, it is a reminder of other options to those habitually employed. The information is logically presented, clearly explained, and easily understood.Some things that worked well for me are:* Breadth and depth of information and processes* Diagrams and examples of processes discussed* Clearly enumerated steps of processes* Tips on the processes and when to use information* Some of the newer organizational development processes included, like open space and appreciative inquiryThere were a few surprises for me, as well, when brain-writing and affinity processes were not included in the brainstorming segment neither was capturing exact verbs and nouns from participants when charting listed as a trust builder. Some of the large scale interventions were abbreviated enough that it might be difficult for a new facilitator or manager to implement.There is always more that can be included! Awesome resource. As a consultant/trainer/facilitator, this book has so many wonderful ideas for doing my job. I got it for an extremely reasonable price. I assumed there was a new edition coming out but I see nothing wrong with this one. I've had my eye on it for awhile but thought it was pricey. There are ideas for facilitating almost any situation. Actually, after having seen it, it was worth the higher price.

The Fieldbook is the most comprehensive manual that I have found to help plan and prepare for group work. I find it especially helpful to plan for the preparatory meeting with clients, as many like to know the details of what is being planned. This manual is very helpful in planning the exact process and steps that will be done with a group.The Fieldbook has become a key part of my "tool box" of information and processes. It covers every step of the process from the tangible (room arrangement) to the abstract (how to plan for and deal with conflict). It goes from early planning to the final stages of taking action and seeing real outcomes. It is well organized and it is easy to find information and how to steps.Even though I already had the 2nd edition, I purchased the 3rd edition as it has important additions including: six worksheets and two whole sections on dealing with Large Groups and how to use the book. There are also sections dealing with some of the more elusive problems including: non-verbal communication, creating sub-groups and the chronic problem of implementation. I recommend this book for anyone who is facilitating and working with groups.

Great resource materials -- everything you could ever want in detail!

Some great content and ideas, for icebreakers, specific problem situations, etc. But I found that the eBook format made it difficult for me to find things. Sometime I got lost in the outline/numbering system. But I do like having this always available on my iPad for reference on the go.
