About the Author
Hal Sharpe is a retired forensic scientist and criminal investor with the United States Army who resides with his wife in Edinburg, Virginia. Sharpe has a master's degree in history from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, and a master's of forensic sciences from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. As a longtime student of Civil War history, particularly in the Shenandoah Valley, Mr. Sharpe has served as a member of the board of directors for the Shenandoah County Historical Society and the Edinburg Heritage Foundation. He served as a member of the historical interpretation committee of the Shenandoah Battlefield Foundation. He is the founding commander of the Captain Jack Adams Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He is also the author of numerous articles and parts of books related to the Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley.

This is a really good book that is local to the county that I live in Virginia. It is extremely informative with lots of pictures and detailed descriptions of the events that took place. I am really enjoying this book.
Good book with some illustrations and old photos. Especially interesting to those local to Shenandoah County to know our local history. Lots of local flavor, fairly detailed narratives of local battles and the impact on residents. I enjoyed the book.
Very interesting. Used this book as the basis for a presentation I will be doing for our book club in April. We live in Shenandoah County so it is very interesting to learn about little known places that have a history during Civil War.
As a fellow Valley Man his book has shown me things and places I didn't know existed. Great reading!
Incredible detail. Very informative. Expected more copy reflecting Shenandoah County citizen's perspective, journal entries, etc. Book might have been improved with a map or two. I found myself reading with my atlas open to Virginia and surrounding states.

Well written with a focused perspective on the region during the Civil War. Extensive bibliography. I learned to appreciate how the people of the Shenandoah were affected by the war, and what part they played in support. A good read.
