About the Author

David N. Hyman, professor of economics and alumni distinguished undergraduate professor at North Carolina State University, has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in public finance there since 1969. Professor Hyman received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. He has held Woodrow Wilson, Earhart, and Ford Foundation fellowships and was a Fullbright senior research scholar in Italy in 1980. In 1997, he was visiting professor of economics at the University of Ferrara in Italy. Professor Hyman is a member of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at North Carolina State University and received the Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award in 1982 and 1996. He is the author of several widely used textbooks in economics and has published scholarly articles in the NATIONAL TAX JOURNAL, PUBLIC CHOICE, the JOURNAL OF ECONOMICS EDUCATION, and other respected academic journals. Professor Hyman served the President's Council of Economic Advisors as a consultant and senior staff economist from 1988 to 1989. He also has been a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution and has worked as a government budget analyst and as an economist for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency. Professor Hyman also is a photographer whose palladium and platinum prints are in the permanent collection of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. His photographs have been exhibited by galleries and museums and have been published in art books and on the covers of several novels.

For the course I was enrolled in this text was what I needed.For anyone just studying finance I disliked the text because it was difficult to search for words or meanings and at times I found myself reading four and five pages to locate one sentence. There is an index and vocabulary is listed in the back but the challenge was many of the terms I was searching for were not listed.I was required to pick up this text for a college course and it did the job. I don't know if I would recommend it for anyone really wanting to learn about public finance.

packed with unnecessary information which makes the book very boring and hard to follow.

Wife had to use this text for a course in public finance. The course stated there were no prerequisites to take the class, however once she started she felt completely confused by the text and had severe difficulty until she was about 80% through the course. Unnecessarily difficult to read and unnecessarily stressful.I looked through the book myself and having previously completed both macro- & micro-economics and finance the book seems to be a mashup of those three topics with additional public policy-specific issues added on top. While the public policy aspects were interesting, by merging three topics it does not provide a true picture of any of the three topics, so students end up being confused over what should be fundamental economic concepts. For example, students end up having to learn how economic graphs are structured and read which is typically different than how "normal" math graphs are interpreted, so students are slowed down by trying to learn fundamentals in what is in essence a more advanced text. My wife felt that she should have been warned by the school to have at least watched a set of lectures on macro- & micro-econ before attempting this course so she would have the background necessary to understand the material. This book should never be provided to students who have not taken a basic economics course.

This was a very expensive book for class. It is very informative, but the cost is too much. Anyone can buy a basic finance and accounting book to understand the principles in this book.

And for the sake of fairness, this should be shown as a verified purchase as I have bought copies to send to friends. That said, The Club goes way beyond soccer â€“ or football, as the rest of the world calls it specifically to confuse Americans. Itâ€™s also goes further than just a business book, detailing a crazy enterprise where winning is huge and losing is death, albeit more politely couched in the term "relegation". (Imagine the misery of sending my Mets down to the Grapefruit League. Although, on second thought...) What The Club does, and does so brilliantly, is tell a compelling story with fabulous characters. It reads like a great novel and is easily on par with Liarâ€™s Poker and Barbarians at the Gate. Who knows, maybe someday someone will turn this into a film, or a six parter for Netflix/Prime. Itâ€™s worthy, because the three elements that make up a great film... and for that matter a great book... are 1) a great story, 2) a great story and 3) a great story. And The Club is just that, a great story... told greatly.

When I read the first edition of Soccernomics 5 or 6 years ago, I didn't think I could like a book about football as much. And true to form, I haven't since. But this book was incredible. Well-written, funny, interesting, and full of so many things I didn't know! For PL die-hards, reading this book is a little like reading a book after you've seen the movie: you spend a lot of time like "I remember that!" and being excited (or heart-broken) to relive some pieces of your club's history, anticipating a build-up to some key events in Premier League history, BUT you find out SO MUCH backstory, it's fascinating!Now I'm reading the 3rd edition of Soccernomics, and it doesn't feel as good as the first two versions, but ONLY because The Club was so good it simply eclipsed it.Hard recommend this book to any football fans, and even to people who know nothing about football.

Then in the 1970s, billboard advertising came around. Eventually, so did the Glazer family, Hicks & Gillet, and Abramovich. The authors show how Arsenal's example in thrift and the big stadium brought a flurry of change. Hitherto, even the big clubs were camped in out-of-date and cramped stadiums; what more the lesser clubs?In comes big money, and the stories and events that led to the breakaway Premier League is absorbing. The authors tell of the dreams and inspirations of clubs and managers in the new profit-centred football world - how Fulham dreams of becoming 'Manchester United of the South'. England has become a place for 'a billionaire with some cash to park abroad and a taste for the adulation of large crowds'.All this brings problems, not just money problems, of which the authors have a thing or two to say, but more importantly on the pitch. Recall player power that ousted you-know-which one? Now the same is threatening Sarri of Chelsea. The authors quote Arsene Wenger: Modern football has been defined by players searching for more and more freedom. And that coincides with more and more individualism... This book is so amazing. Iâ€™m always leery of buying a craft book that says it uses â€œsupplies you already have around the house.â€ I donâ€™t usually keep empty toilet paper rolls, a pile of old magazines, or buckets of beads around my house. Surprisingly, as I looked through the book to make my shopping list, there were very few things that I didnâ€™t already have. All the projects have only a few supplies needed, that you probably do have or can buy cheaply at the $1 store. They are rated 1-5 on messiness. The 5â€™s arenâ€™t that messy if you use precautions. On each page it shows you what that project will be helping your child with (fine motor skills, colors, sensory development, counting, etc.). Since you know what your child is learning , you can talk them through each step. Above all, they are all a lot of fun and my 3 year-old granddaughter begs to do them every day. Iâ€™m thrilled with this book.

I I love how the book is organized and that the activities are simple and easy enough for a busy parent or teacher to do with their kids. Most only require supplies that I already have around the house, which is a major bonus! As a parent of two kids who has done many activities with them over the last 4 or so years, I can say that this book is filled with activities that kids will actually find engaging and want to do over and over again. If you are looking for simple ways to engage your kids with learning and fun, this is the book for you!

This book is so well organized and well thought out! I purchased this for a friend whose son is 18 months old. In flipping through it, I found lots of activities that my own kids would enjoy, who aren't even toddlers anymore! I also loved the "messiness rating" on each activity-this is a great way know just how big of a mess to expect, which is important with toddlers! I just gave it to my friend this weekend and she was absolutely thrilled and SO excited to start trying these out with her little boy! Overall, this is such a great resource for parents or preschool teachers!

I just got this book in the mail today. I thumbed through it and see lots of activities that will be fun for my grandson (soon to be 3) to do when he's here with Nana (me). The book is well organized, colorful and yet written to simplify how to do the activities, and uses mostly things that I have or can get inexpensively. One of the first pages I saw was 'Dancing Popcorn Kernels' which I think he will love! There are many activities for holidays-the index will be very helpful in finding them. Thanks Angela!

Please note I received a review copy of this book. Oh my goodness if you need ideas this book is full of them! And they are really, really good! When I had my first child I scoured tons of books for activity ideas, if only I had had "Play & Learn". I'm floored by the number of projects in here (200+) and the fact that they all have a developmental/educational tie-in. I also love the sweet illustrations and the way the book is organized. If you are parent to a toddler or run a preschool program, this book will become your go-to resource for how to keep the kids engaged and having fun while they learn.

I gave this to a daughter-in-law at Christmas who had it on her wish list to use with her 3 year old. Here is what she said:Oh my goodness, I LOVE it! I have used it serveral times. In fact, we did one just this week. My goal is to incorporate 1-2 a week. (That cotton ball craft Audrey made you was one as well)The only drawback is Iâ€™ve found it requires some materials that I donâ€™t readily have on hand.Itâ€™s nice because it just helps give me an idea when Iâ€™m searching for an activity to do and itâ€™s broken down into separate categories of play/learning. Pretend/explore/create, etc.

I was hoping for ideas with typical household materials, but these require WAY too much preparation. I haven't used this at all with my 18 month old. Maybe when I'm out of work I'll find the time.

So fun ! I love the ideas, and it gives us something to look forward to each day !

In this book Esther gets you started from page one, assuming no prior familiarity with natural vision improvement using the Bates Method. Her writing style is encouraging, sincere, and enthusiastic, backed by a deep knowledge of the Bates Method from years of full-time professional practice and from reading Dr. Bates' original writings from the early 1900's.To get you oriented in the book, she uses large print. That will encourage people who use reading glasses to either discard their glasses entirely to read the book, or to use lower power glasses.Esther gradually reduces the font size throughout the book, even offering identical passages, back to back in progressively smaller fonts. Contrary to popular opinion, fine print is NOT bad for your eyes. In fact, it promotes relaxed vision. And some of the print in this book is very tiny, much smaller than you will find in a "regular" book - which is a good thing! It's all to help promote relaxed, clear vision. The book would be much less effective without this feature.Who will benefit from this book? The Bates Method is not a "quick fix" gimmick. If you've heard of the Bates Method and are more than casually committed to trying it for presbyopia (middle-aged sight); or if you're a serious student of the Bates Method; or if you understand the power of self-healing; or if you consider yourself a spiritual person and believe in finding answers within, then this book is for you.Thank you Esther for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm!PS: One tiny complaint about the physical book itself: The covers tend to curl. I was told years ago that using glasses every day weakens your eyesight. Sometimes I get up in the morning and take my dog out to do his business and I forget to put on glasses. I have noticed that my eyesight is not as bad as it is later in the day after wearing glasses all day. So I plan on trying out this method. I am hoping to strengthen my eyes. Not 20/20 but at least improve my eyes a little bit.

I'm delighted with your book, Read Without Glasses at Any Age! I'm 69 years old, and can read the finest print on labels, thanks to my practice of the methods you advocate in your book. Since 1994, I have been reading fine print as often as possible. When I have articles to print out on the computer, I always reduce the type to a 6 or 8point font. I started doing it for practice and to save paper, but now I find it easier on my eyes to read fine print than larger type. There are many invaluable suggestions in your book. I thank you for writing it, Esther. I've been a Vision Educator for 25 years and it's always been on my mind to write a book. Now I don't have to do it!

Having read this book I can say it has been very useful reading journey or experience. The information is thorough and complete and gave me a constant smile.The reason for my smile was the clear quality of explaining !In my opinion the book is a very interesting buy for both teachers ( I am a Bates NVI teacher ) and people with presbyopia. But also when you are interested in any othereyecondition(s) it is for certain worth the buy. Topics like central fixation are very often not very easyto understand. I have not found a book giving a better explanation ! The information and instructionare simple, exact and logical and you can experience things while reading.It helped me improve my own small print reading vision in just 2 weeks ! I could not read small print at all with my left eye. Now I can. The only 2 things I did every day for about 3 or 5 minutes was reading small print and using some of the tools provided by this book. By the way the name for nothaving the same acuity in your eyes anisometropia. This is mentioned in this book. This book triggered me to test both my eyes. I did not know I had this inbalanced eye condtition.Just to emphasize how complete this book is. Every reference is given. Which also shows how much.... the author has put in the book. I wanted to say effort, but I can also say how much interest theauthor has in the subject presbyopia ( or old age sight) in combination with NVII have also read a lot of great sentences which I can directly use for my teachings. When books become this well written teachers become less important. However Esther advices to contact yourlocal Bates teacher as well. I also think that is wise thing to do. To make sure you do learn and reachyour full potential and do not make mistakes or slow down in your relearnings. Make sure you makeyour progress measurable. Or determine at which position your vision becomes a challenge. Thismakes going this route very motivating. Accept where you are at this moment do not accept to staythere. Find a teacher who teaches and understands the right vision habits. ( Sketch, Breath and Blinkand the main principles. If your teacher only talks about exercises find another teacher. Importantthemes are Relaxatiom movement and Central fixation. And of course imagination. ) Most teachercan teach you the basics very quickly. I've been practicing the Bates method for quite a while and I like to have books like this to share with friends. This book is a great addition to my library. Explaining the concept of relaxing into seeing is one thing, but this book guides you slowly through the process. The font starts off large, so that you can still read it, without your glasses. Eventually, you'll be surprised at how your eyes improve, and that reading smaller print is even relaxing. Yes, you heard that right. Reading smaller print becomes relaxing as you get the knack of it! I highly recommend this process; it has worked wonders for my own eyes, and it's a joy.

Esther's book demonstrates that she really understands the eyes and how to improve eyesight and the mechanics. I have worked with her personally and all the tips and cards she gives at her sessions from the eye chart to the small tiny print card, are also in the the book so if youdon't have the luxury of getting to work with her in person you can actually get great results from reading her book. She has a gift for this work.Bates would be proud!!!

We all love our Chilton manuals and This Shop manual covered more than a dozen different models. Each set of models that share the same parts are Tabbed in Black. You go straight to the models that encompasses your model. It even shows diagram work as to the way each item came apart and goes back together. (No leftover parts)..Great!

Very helpful book, very satisfied! Great price and fast shipping!

This Repair manual is ok if your going to light maintenance, but don't waist your money if your tractor needs major work. It covers just a little bit on a lot of different models but doesn't tell anything about diagnosing problems or testing different hydraulic pressures or splitting the tractor.Your much better off spending about $100 to buy a complete John Deere service manual for your model tractor. The one I ended up buying has 612 pages and it covers it all !!

We purchased a 1978 JD Model 2040 tractor from a JD dealer. Over time we got two different operators manuals from the dealer for that year and model; neither matched our dash design. We ordered this book from Amazon.com and it was exactly what we needed. It even showed how to use the PTO, which the dealer's copies did not. This is the Best Book Ever.
