Amazon.com Review
Welcome to the hilariously hypothetical world of Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. Everything has an impact on everything else in this world, so if you take a mouse to the movies, don't be surprised if you find yourself being run ragged by the exuberant little fellow's increasingly grand appetites. When we first met him in Numeroff and Bond's tremendously popular If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, he had more energy than a 2-year-old on lollipops. Now, in the excitement of the Christmas season, he's unstoppable. Going from movie theater to Christmas tree lot to the neighbor's yard for snowmouse-building, he's a very demanding mouse indeed--in only the best way, of course. The freshness of the If You Give a... series is diminished only slightly as the sequels pile up. The dazed and earnest look on the face of the mouse's long-suffering friend makes a marvelous foil for the mouse's high-spirited expressions. Adult readers will chuckle as they recognize the ephemeral passions of a child, while children will simply love the unfolding chain of events. A perfect Christmas read-aloud for the impetuous youngster on your list. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

Ages 3-6. Following the popular If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (1987), If You Give a Moose a Muffin (1991), and If You Give a Pig a Pancake (1998), Numeroff offers another lively cause-and-effect romp. When a boy takes a mouse to the movies, the mouse wants popcorn, which he strings together and wants to hang on the Christmas tree that the boy buys for him. On the way home, the mouse wants to play in the snow but then needs to warm up at home, where he sings Christmas carols and wants to decorate the tree. His popcorn string is missing, so he wants to make another, which reminds him of the movies . . . As with the previous titles, children will find both the bouncy speculative text and the colorful illustrations irresistible. In simple pictures filled with wit, Bond personalizes both the story and the characters, creating the earnest boy, eager to please his gleeful, hyper mouse. A charmer that's sure to get plenty of circulation. Gillian EngbergCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

We have so many of the books in this series, and my children love them. This book feels so random though. The cat goes from place to place and the book has no flow to it. I mean, they rarely were in one place longer than one page. This is the first one from the author I've been disappointed with.
There is a whole series of "If you give a" books. They are all cleverly written and funny. My 2 year old daughter loves them and laughs hysterically when I read them. I enjoy reading them too. The pages are vibrant and the illustrations are beautiful. The pages are also durable and thick which I appreciate as a mom of a tot.Overall, this is a beautiful, fun, and durable book that was well written. I recommend it. Check out "If you give a pig a pancake". (same author) That's our favorite book!
Cute story and my 2 year old wanted to read it a lot. However this version has a lot of useless extra things- really horrible songs that don’t fit the correct tune, weird extra sketches, and recipes I’m never going to try. Should have paid more attention when buying, happy with the cute story and illustrations but wish I got the normal addition without all the nonsense- would have been cheaper and saved me some headaches when trying to figure out how the song lyrics could possibly fit the tune. That being said my toddler thought it was hilarious because it was making me frustrated, so maybe that’s what they were going for? Authors should stick to writing stories!!!
My 2 1/2 year old son's previous all time favorite book was "The Best Mouse Cookie" and has been for the last 1 1/2 years. This might replace it-- at least for several months. He and I both love all the seasonal tie ins to winter, snow, Christmas, snowmen, etc. We love the mouse, his constant need to be doing something different...and the boy who sweetly goes along with everything he asks. This will be one that we won't put away with the other Christmas books-- we will keep it out year round! We had to buy it via Amazon as we saw this book at Barnes & Noble but Amazon's price was 25% better or so (and no tax) so we waited for it to come in the mail instead. Happy with this purchase and this series in general!
I never mind a used book. Books should be read by many eyes. Now, if you’re selling used books, be truthful with your audience. I was looking for this book to add to my sons library. These books are his favorite. I bought this thinking it was a used hard cover book, like it said, but was misinformed. It’s a mini book from a chick fil a kids meal. I just spend 10$ on a free toy from chic fil a..... it’s funny....but not really lol I’m just going to Barnes and noble for this book. I’m returning this toy.
Makes it that much better when my own cat is a tuxedo...This was for a birthday gift along with an Amazon gift card (Yup! A 6 year-old asking for gifts cards already). LolAs a cute added bonus, I bought a stuffed tuxedo cat to tie onto the book as a hug-a-long with the story and chose the Amazon gift card that came in a gift tin shaped like a cupcake.I'm a sticker for the details...
Having read the reviews by others who thought this book didn't flow well, I tend to agree. The flow of events isn't as seamless as in If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Give a Pig a Pancake. But, it's still a great read, and my toddler loves it. She's a cat lover and I bought this book on this fact alone. Yes, there are some things that don't make a ton of sense in this book...but really, do many kid's books make perfect sense? She loves it and that's good enough for me. If you only have the money to get one or two If You Give Books, I'd get the others I listed above before getting this one. I think they are better stories. But, I'm not sorry I bought this one and my toddler sure loves it and that's all that matters to me.
This book is hilarious. My daughter loves it. The crazy scenarios that might happen when you give a cat a cupcake. The possibilities are absurd and we as adults know that but my daughter think they could be real. Given the fact she is five years old only but now she wants a cat herself. The illustrations are so cute and the storyline.
